How to Get the Bus from Preveza Airport to Lefkada (and Vice-Versa)

Here’s a quick overview of the journey from Preveza International Airport to Lefkada by public bus, including where to find bus timetables.

The buses in and around Preveza and its airport are run by the regional bus group KTEL Preveza. You can sometimes find the schedules under the ‘E-Ticket’ section. Unfortunately for me when I was visiting they didn’t seem to be updating it with times so making plans required a leap of faith!

You can also use the website Rome2Rio to look up bus journeys in Greece – I’ve generally found the timings pretty accurate.

As a last resort try the Facebook group Preveza Town if you can’t find the timetables online or want to know more about local routes.

However, the buses on Lefkada are run by KTEL Lefkada. Thankfully I’ve found their website to be more up-to-date and easy to use. It also includes the timetables for the Airport-Preveza bus.

Preveza Airport

It’s helpful to know that the bus stop at Preveza Airport is not signposted within the airport at all. Walk outside from arrivals and turn left. You’ll see the taxi rank and an outside cafe. Beyond that is the airport’s exit road. Follow this road – the bus stop is outside the airport on the main road.

At the junction with the main road look right – here you’ll see a bus shelter (it might be obscured from view a little). Timetables are usually pinned up within the shelter. This side is for buses heading south to Lefkada. There is also a bus stop across the road for buses heading to Preveza.

The buses are not timed to coincide with airport arrivals and they’re not as frequent as you might imagine. I visited in high season recently and there were only 6 per day, with the last bus to Lefkada running at 8:45 pm most days. Unfortunately Preveza itself is equally hard to get to so you can’t use it to kill time (unless you get a taxi). I’m usually a dedicated bus-user but I ended up getting a taxi to Lefkada because it was going to be a long wait for the bus.

There’s a well-stocked taxi rank just outside the airport. Taxi prices are:

  • Lefkada Town €35-45
  • Nikiana €50-55
  • Lygia €45-50
  • Nydri €55-65
  • Vassiliki €85-95
  • Agios Nikitas  €55-65

Lefkada Town

The capital of Lefkada is Lefkada Town (often just referred to as Lefkada) and you’ll almost certainly have to change here for onward journeys throughout the island.

Lefkada Town does have a large bus terminal with proper facilities on the outskirts of town where all routes start and end.  However, it’s a long trek from the main part of town. You’re only likely to use it if someone is dropping you off here. It has numerous coach bays and facilities including an ATM, toilets, and a cafe.

There are a few bus stops in the centre you can use. I usually used the Marina stop shown below. There are plenty of cafes nearby plus a taxi rank and a large car park. It has a ticket kiosk (although is not manned at all times) and the timetables are pinned up on the bus shelter.

Bus prices on Lefkada are cheap, usually under €2.50 for a single journey. For smaller stops, you’ll need to ring the stop button on the bus.

If you’d rather get a taxi for your onward journey, prices from Lefkada Town are:

  • Lygia €10-12
  • Nikiana €15-20
  • Nydri €25
  • Vassiliki €50-55
  • Agios Nikitas €22-25

When doing the journey in reverse, you can buy tickets on the bus. Only Nydri has a ticket kiosk.
