Thinking of booking a trip to Lygia on Lefkada (also known as Lefkas)? Here’s what to expect from this quiet fishing village.
Where is it?
Lygia (or Ligia) on the east coast of Lefkada, south of Lefkada Town and north of Nikiana.
For an overview of all the resort towns on the island, check out Lefkada Resort Guide.

What’s the vibe like?
Lygia is a small and friendly village that hugs the coastal road.
It is comprised of two parts: a working harbour that’s also home to several fish tavernas plus boat rentals as well as its fishing fleet, and a narrow shady pebble beach. The two are linked by a small quaint seafront promenade. Amenities and accommodation are spread out along the main road as well as up in the hills towards the village of Katouna.
The vibe here is low-key, family-friendly, and unpretentious. The beach here isn’t big enough to attract the day trippers that flock to Nydri and Vassiliki. But the shallow waters and good value are popular with local families and Eastern European tourists.

What’s the beach like?
The main beach at Lygia is narrow but has crystal-clear waters which are calm and shallow. Tall pine trees directly on the beach provide much-welcome shade.
The beach is made up of small pebbles and shingle. It has lovely views across the sea to mainland Greece.
The wider sections are organised with sun loungers and a cafe. The sun loungers at the southern end belong to the beachfront Hotel Porto Lygia.
There’s another small little-used strip of beach next to the harbour, and a narrow unorganised pebble beach called Kariotes past the harbour and near the salt flats. South of Lygia is a lovely wooded pebble beach called Episkopos.

Activities and amenities
Lygia is small but you’ll find the bare bones necessary for your holiday – around a dozen Greek tavernas within walking distance, a couple of mini-markets, a bakery, and a few cafes. Boat rental is available from the harbour.
For anything else, you’ll have to go further afield. Note that there are no ATMs in Lygia.
An evening drink at The White cafe/bar overlooking the beach is particularly recommended.
Transport and accessibility

From the airport:
Lygia is a 30-minute drive from Preveza-Aktion International Airport. Taxis cost €45-50.
Public transport:
Lygia is served by Lefkada’s KTEL bus service – check the KTEL website for timetables and routes. There are several bus stops along the main road – there’s no shelter, just signs.
Buses run fairly frequently throughout the day to Lefkada Town along the east coast – although perhaps not quite as frequently as you might imagine. You can connect here for other services. The bus is geared towards locals and is of limited use for visiting the island’s popular west coast beaches, although in high season there’s a bus which continues on from Lefkada Town to Agios Nikitas and Kathisma.
A single bus ticket to Lefkada Town is €1.60. A taxi from Lygia to Lefkada Town will cost you €10-12.
To reach the airport by bus you’ll have to connect in Lefkada Town with a bus running to the airport and Preveza. These don’t necessarily coincide with airport departures and arrivals so advance planning is required.
Accessibility:
The main coastal road is flat but if your accommodation is far up behind the main road there may be some hills involved.
There’s a small paved promenade connecting the beach with the harbour but there are a few steps required to get down from the promenade (or the road) to the beach. Kariotes Beach is easier for direct car access.
Parking at Lygia Beach is limited but there is some at Arista for patrons.
Lygia has a Sea Trac for wheelchair access.
Prices

Prices in Lygia are on the cheaper end for Lefkada. Accommodation and restaurant prices are good value.
Where to stay

There’s no shortage of good-value studios and hotels in Lygia, plus plenty of villas in the surrounding hills. Be aware of the traffic noise if choosing to stay on the road though.
3-star Hotel Porto Lygia occupies a prime position on the beach. It occupies its own little headland and has a seafront pool too.
Tzeni Villa (pictured above) is also right on the sea, between the beach and the harbour. It has a number of apartments in a landscaped garden and is right next door to The White.
For aesthetics, White Rock Villas are a 10-minute walk down the main road and have private pools and hot tubs alongside whitewashed boho interiors.
Up near Kariotes there’s more space (so bigger pools, better parking and less traffic noise):
Further inland and uphill is the beautiful Katouna Suites Luxury Boutique Hotel.
