I don’t know about you but one of the things that stresses me out on air travel days is not knowing the availability of food and water.
Especially as post-Brexit us Brits have to get our passport checked and stamped before getting on the plane home from Europe. I like to be in plenty of time but I don’t want to be stuck sitting at the gate with too much time to kill and nothing to eat or drink.
The main departures lounge at Palermo airport isn’t amazing for food given the size of the airport. There are two cafes and one restaurant (as well as the duty free shops which have a reasonable selection of food souvenirs). There’s not much seating so unless you queue for the restaurant you’ll be standing up to eat your final arancina.
At the time of writing, the departure gates for flights heading outside the EU are 21-15. You’ll be pleased to hear there is a cafe at the boarding gates, beyond passport control.
However, it’s not extensive. If you want hot food then get it at the main departures lounge. But there are plenty of sandwiches, baked goods, and drinks at the gate, as well as ice-creams, small bottles of beer and of course decent coffee.
Water is an eye-watering €2.50 a bottle though. There’s a vending machine with cheaper bottles just before you enter passport control. I didn’t manage to find out if there was a free water refill station in the airport- if anyone knows do let me know and I’ll update this page.
